I think your cat has you well trained. He certainly has learned an effective way to get your attention. I have to open all of my lower cabinets at bedtime. If I don't, my cat climbs in and then opens and closes the door! He will do this until I get up and feed him. They are certainly charming creatures! Good luck!

One of my cats chases her shadow whenever I turn on the light or if the sun causes one. It's really funny. Sometimes she meows. Do you feed your cat in the morning? I do and mine know when it is time for their breakfast. They sit on my bed and some of them meow loudly.

Since cats have much keener senses than humans, it is possible that your cat sees and/or hears something of which you are not aware. Moreover, animals tend to go through a daily (and nightly) routine. Although your cat could be seeing his shadow or is excited over the new day starting and you getting out of bed, there may very well be hidden "visitors" in or around your home. Some possibilities are: a spider or other type of bug on the wall; a bird outside also responding to the new day; and--perhaps most likely--a mouse/mole/vole or even chipmunk crawling between the walls. A nocturnal rodent may be taking the same path to go to bed just as the sun is arising and your cat would be privy to its routine. (Even if you don't think you have any rodents in your home, you probably do; they're in/around most buildings!) If you could get a "cat's-eye view", you would be able to realize that there IS something making your cat react, and it isn't just the wall. When you walk toward the light switch (and then turn on the light), any critters lurking about would "freeze" (or scurry to hide) and subsequently stop making noise. The routine apparently is repeated each day!

That's funny. Does he have a feeding pattern that coincides with this? My cats will stand in the kitchen and mewl until I get up and feed them. Their little internal clocks are more reliable than my alarm! It could be that your guy thinks there's an interloper and from one to the next, he forgets. Does he seem startled when you turn on the light? Does he look to see if the "other cat" is still there? As long as he's not all freaked out, it might just be a little quirky thing and a way to get your attention. Tell him he's a good boy and when he stops meowing and in time he might stop altogether.
