I've often wondered that question myself, to be honest. :(

I agree with everything that's been said. Hartz enjoys what retailers refer to as "Brand Recognition". Younger folks remember as children that their parents bought their products for the household pets and if it was good enough for them then it must be the best. All they have to do is see the name and instantly there is a 3rd party endorsement...their parents!
Fortunately we have a much faster means of communicatiing to the world when products begin to do more harm than good i.e. zootoo.com and the internet in general.
We as responsible pet owners/consumers need to be sure that we keep up with product reviews both good and bad and be willing to pass that information on so problems like the China Connection with pet foods, toys etc doesn't ever repeat itself. Especially if lives are at stake!

Unfortunately they have been around forever. Maybe because of that people trust them. And like it's been said it's cheaper and you don't have to go to the vet, and they sell it in all kinds of stores. I think they had lawsuits with the Blockade flea stuff they sold. Killed alot of cats with that one.

Because people buy over the counter because it's cheaper than going to a Vet, they say they can't afford a Vet, my belief is if you can't afford a pet it is wrong to have one, you are not giving it a good home if you can't keep it well & comfortable & safe.

I agree with Heather. People want to buy the cheapest product they can, and they either don't care or haven't heard about how lethal it can be. I tried Hartz Ultra Guard once, it smelled so bad I had to bath all the dogs. Plus it gave my ex-husband a really bad rash on his face after he touched it. I think that warnings should be posted where the product is sold, right with the product and maybe more people would know the bad things about Hartz product.
