Make good friends with other people with dogs who have POOLS. A lot of people who are dog lovers have no qualms about sharing the pool with their dog and usually won't mind sharing with your's if you have them hose off first. In fact, if you post what you are thinking of on Craigslist and maybe offer to do free (or pay for) pool cleaning if some dog friendly pool owner will let your dog swim once a week.

I used to live in TN and we used to take our horses to some parks in TN & KY. The rivers there are great and clean. We used to swim with the horses there. Check out what state parks you are close to. You may have to hike a bit. We went to Big South Fork alot also.

Generally, Ponds in dog parks are pretty dirty (from my experience.) I would look up a local retriever training club or a dock diving club in your area to see where they meet and practice. Swimming is a great way to build muscle and endurance. Good luck!

Typically, any lakes that allow humans to swim in it usually don't allow dogs because of "sanitary" and "hygiene" reasons. Are there any local dog parks in your area that have ponds? The only thing I can think of is search some local lakes and ponds in your areas, perhaps at local parks, and check the laws or call the parks to find out if dogs are allowed to swim in them.
