Happy (TYree Hall Happy Wanderer) was a Shetland Sheepdog who became part of our family when I was in 7th grade. Everyone had told my parents that they should buy me a dog (I had spent much of my childhood dragging around a white stuffed dog on the end of a rope) and one day after school we took a drive about 50 miles away to Tyree Hall Farms in Hampshire, Illinois (not an ad - they retired many years ago), and got the best 6-month-old puppy ever! Happy was my constant companion, and lived with us and brightened our lives for over 14 years. Unfortunately, he became old, blind, deaf, and incontinent, and the day came when he could no longer lift his head. But he was the best...even raised our first kitten as if he was the cat's mother.

My family had dogs throughout my childhood, and I remember them all. But, my first was a mixed breed dog that I named Noodles. It's been nearly 30 years, but I still remember the day my family picked her up. She eventually had a batch of puppies, and I somehow talked my mom into letting me keep the runt of the litter...a little girl that I named Mouse. She was the size of a mouse when she was born, so the name fit. Mouse was with me for 15 years, until I (very reluctantly) had to put her to sleep due to illness and old age.

One of my favorite pets that I have ever owned when growing up was a German Shepard named Duchess. She was absoultly wonderful with my brother and I, but the only issue that we had with her was that she was very aggressive and protective. My father was in the the Navy for about 28 years, and we had moved to Sicily, Italy, and receieved her by an ex-police officer. She was basically a retired police dog. But she was the most loving dog to her family, and was so loyal to my brother and I. Another pet that I really enjoyed having was Bo. he was another German Shepard but he was that first dog that I have ever owned, I was about a year old going on two when we got him. I named him, and that was my first word that I have ever spoken. He was also a great dog, and have lovely pictures and memories of him. Later on the years he had to be put to sleep due to hip dysplasia. Those were some of my great favorite pets. =]

I had a standard size dachshund named Rudy which was short for Rudolph because we really liked the red nosed reindeer I guess.

Had a little Scotty named Wimpy. He would walk me to the school bus stop and then go back home. No leash laws back then. He also jumped forward to protect me when a snake crossed our path. I ran the other way. Hecaught up with me and looked like he was grinning, as if to say "Itook care of it".
