I have been using science diet with my new puppy, he is six months old. In the past I have used purina with other dogs. Science diet says that if you use it your dog will have less waste, i'm not finding this to be true. Has anyone had this experience?

I love Canidae dog food...it is perfect for all ages of dogs...not one for Puppies, adults and seniors. Buy 1 food-every dog eats it. My dog is 11 years old and since switching to Canidae (Eukanuba before this) she has an increase in energy and wants to play more often. My daughter has a 1 year old black Pug and she has had her on Canidae since a puppy. Both dogs eat the lamb and Rice Canidae. When you read the ingredients on Canidae, Eukanuba looks like "junk food."

Boots started out on Puppy Chow but didn't really like it. The vet suggested Hill's Science Diet and he did okay on it. Just before he turned a year old I got a sample of Natural Balance from zootoo and he loved it. Has been on it ever since. Congrats on the new puppy!

I started out using Iams, then after my dog trainer gave us some articles on dog food went to Wellness, then ended up using Innova, I would never go back to the cheap supermarket brands who use meat byproducts. My dogs are doing much better on a quality product, I pay more but I believe it's worth it. You wouldn't eat low quality food, why should your dog?

Two of my dog ate Science Diet for the first year. I loved it and had no problems with it.

My puppies did not stay on puppy food very long at eight wks I started them on lamb and rice adult food because the puppy foods are soft they did not chew it they were swallowing it whole and then choking on it.

I have used Nutro Natural Choice Small Bites Puppy with my pomeranian since I got her at 8 wks. It is a chicken meal, rice and oatmeal formula. She is now 10 months and has been an extremely happy, healthy, energetic, and loving puppy with a gorgeous coat! I would highly recommend its use!

The previous post is correct, I own a pet store and we specialize in natural foods. Science Diet, Puppy Chow, and other grocery store brands use corn and other grains as fillers, it is more cost effective for them however it will usually cost some pet owners more money in the long run! Look for dog foods that do not contain corn, wheat or soy, they are grains that can also cause food allergies, you want to give your pup the best start in life. Brown rice is ok if you buy a food with grain. I personally also feed a grain free and most of them are labeled as All Life Stage which means you can feed from puppy to senior stages. Unless you have a large breed puppy some grain frees contain higher levels of Calcium which is not so good for the rapid growth of lg. breed bones, it is not the protein level! High protein from good meat sources is actually very beneficial in preventing a lot of health problems. Go to a specialty pet store and you will find many brands that are healthy just read the ingredients and you'll see the differances. Petco has started selling holistic diets that might be a good place to start. Good luck!

anything that has a lot of corn in it is going to cause a lot if waste. sort of like garbage in, garbage out. science diet does have a lot of filler, if i remember correctly. i think of it this way (not to be gross) but if you feed your dog whole corn or rice, you will see it there (in it's original form) in the stool the next day. it is undigested. so if you feed em ground up corn or rice... same result you just can't see individual pieces because the grain was ground when it went in. long story short, you should choose a food that has meat as the first ingredient on the label and a minimal amount of grain. i finally went grain-free after trying several different dog food brands that caused my dog varying degrees of gastric upset. i am very happy with wellness core, which is grain-free and comes in chicken or fish. i don't think it is recommended for pups under a year of age, however, so i guess this isn't helping you much!
good luck!!

I use Bil Jack and my puppy loves it her "doodles"are quite small and compact and when switching you don't have to gradually switch you can switch right over with no tummy problems.
