What is your favorite/the best cat litter?

I still have not found a brand of cat litter I am satisfied with.

I ideally would like non-clay litter, however, all of the flushable kinds I have tried STINK, even with regular cleaning.

I also have tried a few brands of clay litter, but it seems like I cannot find a brand that clumps well and doesn't crumble down when I scoop it (Esp. when its...fresh.)

A plus would be a litter that is available in bags instead of highly un-recycleable plastic bins/jugs.
Price doesn't matter! I just want something that works!

I live in the country and so needed something biodegradeable--clay litters seemed to make a mucky mess when wet. Our local shelters uses pine pellets, but the sacks weigh about 35 lbs and were hard for me to handle. I've been using wood shavings, available in pine, cedar or aspen. I prefer cedar because of the nice smell. It's available at tractor Supply or the co-0p and probably at other farm supply stores. Don't look for kitty litter, though--look for horse beddding.

I use Fresh Step. It scoops well and I never have an odor. I get it in the plastic buckets which I always have a use for but I have seen it in bags. I am on a septic tank so I do not flush. I have tried many others and like the Fresh Step the best.

I use Cat's Pride--a clumping litter. It has the "seal of approval" of the American Humane Society, which I thought was worth something. Supposedly fewer chemicals and whatnot. But, yes, it does come in a bin. If you remove the metal handle, it can be recycled in my community.

I do watch friend's cats and Feline Pine is great--but, not all cats will use it. And, getting the poop out of the Feline Pine is a problem, to say the least. I have also watched cats that use Yesterday's News. I've never noticed a smell with it, but they do change it quite frequently. And, that is pretty eco-friendly as well.

having 5 indoor cats, litter was an important issue here. Plus my husband is an environmentalist so it has to be something biodegradable or compostable. I had many experiments trying different brands and see how they smell and work. I finally came to the liking of Swheat Scoop. It is made of wheat and it clumps and it didn't smell bad. The only issue I had with this is it is pricey even in the larger bags. I didn't want to be spending $35+ a month on cat litter. My husband did some research and found an unique idea. We now use chicken layer mash from the feed store. It clumps, it doesn't smell but it is a bit dusty when cleaning. The cats had no problem switching over to this and it works well. I can get it by the 50 pound reusable bag and it composts. It only costs about $13. Give it a try and see how it works for you.

I always like Scoops Away litter, it clumps really good and my cats seemed to like it, I would try a different brand but always go back to it.

Fresh Step. I have three cats, two of which are indoor. It clumps, you sift, and no odor. Seems economical, too--about ten bucks a box--for what it does and how long it lasts.

We like the Feline Pine cat litter. You only have to use about 2/3 of what you would normally with clay. Plus no dust and it's 100% biodegradable, mulchable and compostable so it's earth friendly as well

We use the unscented Petsmart brand Exquisicat. It is a hard scooping litter and if scooped daily not too bad.
