What is the best cat food for a cat with a sensitive stomach?

Your cat does need to see a veterinarian to rule out any underlying medical problems first. If there is nothing medically wrong with your cat it is most likely a food allergy or intolerance, not just a sensitive stomach. The problem with most foods that say 'sensitive stomach' is that they are usually filled with lots of corn and wheat, and less protein. I would bet that if you would switch your cat completely off (including treats) of corn and wheat that the issues would clear up. If this doesn't help then you probably need to stop feeding chicken as well because these are all the three most common food allergies in cats and dogs. There are many good natural foods out there that are not that much more expensive than non-natural foods and they are MUCH better for your cat. Some great foods include California Natural, Wellness, Nature's Variety, Innova EVO, and Solid Gold. I think that California Natural would probably be the best though because it's formula is more simple than the others, and designed more for cats and dogs with allergy problems. I hope this helps!

As a veterinarian, I have a few suggestions. First of all, you need to find out why your cat is vomiting. Is this a long haired cat that has hairballs? When was the last time the cat was dewormed? You may need to go so far as to have blood work done, radiographs taken and a biopsy of the intestines or stomach done. There are many different causes of vomiting and I would have to warn you about following some of the suggestions that have been posted. I don't think there is one particular brand of food that is guaranteed to work since the causes maybe so diverse. As for raw diets, they are new trend in the industry and you need to be aware of several things before you start. Consider the fact that your cat will be more susceptible to getting parasites and more than 80% of cats on raw diets carry disease causing bacteria like salmonella. People believe that raw diets are more natural and again I would have to remind people that our domestic cat is a not a wild animal. Since the domestic cat has been eating our scraps and we have been cooking our food for millions of years, not all cats will do well with a raw diet.

Please do not give your pets medicine without trying foods, I hate to cover up a problem when you can find a solution. I am a Nutro fan. The best food for your cat and all cats is raw meat & bones. The cause of your cats sensitive stomach is dry cat food. Cats did not evolve to eat dry over cooked biscuits. Please read the book " Raw Meaty Bones " By Dr. Tom Lonsdale to save your cat from any further health problems.

I use eukanuba. I haven't had a problems with it

I personally really liked the Purina One Sensitive Systems. Its very gentle on the cats stomach. My grandmother also fed it to her cat who lived to be about 18years old. wish you luck!

Eukanuba has a low residue diet that might work well for your cat. At the vet clinic that I work at sometimes the cat has to go on prednisone long term if you can't find a food that will work well with your cat's sensitive tummy. Hopefully you can give the Eukanuba food a try and that will work. Good Luck
