Just keep taking him out, try walking him around he yard on a leash, something scared him but don't lose patience or pull him around on the leash it will just make it worse, their all different just like people, look at al the people terrified of dogs, to stp the accidents just walk him down the street and keep trying the yard or just sit out there if you have time and read or something and ignore him maybe he'll get bored and go. Good Luck

Sounds to me like he was bitten by a bee. Keep trying to take him out. It may pass.

Sounds like he came across a "night crawler" an insect or something that spoofed him badly. I've got a cocker spaniel and he's kinda the same way (without the indoor incidents). Very picky on where he goes, so at times I'll give him a nice late afternoon walk. Try a nice "leisure" walk with him and taking him out before dark. How old is your dog, btw? Hope he gets better.

maybe he is sick with a stomach flu? That does sound somewhat odd xD
