What do I do for Transportation for me and my dog if I don't drive?

I want to get a Medium or Large Breed so I can't use the Bus System and put my dog in a purse. We can only walk so far -- Taxis are so expensive but I want a larger dog or I wouldn't be happy. A bike with attached child car on back wheel? Any other ideas? I don't want to choose my New Dog based on Transportation. I want to choose the kind of dog that I want. Don't you agree?

My neighbor does not drive, and takes his dog everywhere by having her jog along side a bike. She is a lab mix and loves the exercise. In an emergency, you can take one of the pricey cabs, or if you have a neighbor who is also a dog lover (like my neighbor does), ask for a ride.

I agree that you should get a dog that you want and that makes you happy, and if you can find a solution like running or biking, then that's great. But also make sure that before you get the dog, that you consider emergency situations. Like how will you get your dog to the vet if he/she is hurt and cannot run or walk with you (maybe a friend or neighbor that lives nearby that can help). But I'm sure that this is something that you must already be thinking about since you have asked this kind of question. Good luck!

You should pick the breed you want but need to have a plan in place to make it work.
Sarah's idea of jogging sounds great

if you get a dog it should be what you like but you should be happy at the same time. When you get a puppy just train it and make it know that you care for them and that the roads are bad.

You could train your new dog to run alongside a bike. You could take up jogging!
