I don't even really care if I have to make the toys. I just want my guinea pigs to try some new toys and see how they like them.

What I always had in the cage was an old shoe box with a hole cut in the side. It give them a place to run and hide and mine always loved it!

My rabbit likes to play with a big oatmeal container--I just cut a hole in the bottom that is big enough for him to poke his head through. I imagine gp's would like them too, and would fit inside better! lol

Try some of the rabbit toys and treats at Petsmart.

I know I had the same problem but here is what I came up with,
1. Put hay in a paper bag, and then o course put it in the cage, it doubles as a hide-away, and sort-of a snack shack!!
2. Cut up that cardboard thing that wrapping paper goes around and put it in there. Hope this helps!!!

I try to leave some things in their cage so they have someting to investigate during the day. Take a toilet paper,(or paper towel)roll about 6 inches long & stuff it with some good quality timothy hay. Try to pack it in tighly, with it sticking out both ends. All of my piggies enjoy removing the hay &/or chewing on the roll every day
(you'd think they would get tired of this, but they don't seem to). I also give them items such as hay cubes (timothy) to chew on, wood chews (made especially for small animals, so they are safe), a small paper cup to toss around, & some even enjoy pushing around a cat toy such as a plastic ball with a bell inside. Just be sure that the plastic is fairly thick, so they don't chew the ball, break it & injure their mouth.
I also make sure they have play time outside the cage every day. Set up a pet-safe area with some newspaper on the floor with a couple of boxes to run in & out of. Then scatter some small pieces of leaf lettuce, carrot, kale, escarole, chickory, whole wheat bread or plain shredded wheat, etc. around the floor for them to "find". I reserve small pieces of fruit as the "top prize", hold it just a small distance from their face & call them. Believe it or not, my piggies have learned to come running!!

One of the most enjoyable things you can add to a guinea pigs cage are tunnels and little houses for them to run through or to relax in if they want to spend some time on their own. They will also use the houses and tunnels as bolt holes if they become afraid, a safe place they can quickly retreat to. Here are photo's of some of tunnels and houses my piggies use, both inside their cage and outside in their safe play areas. Remember to never leave your guinea pigs unsupervised outside in the garden. Also, make sure the area you use for your guinea pigs to have some free range time is safe. For information about keeping your guinea pigs safe while out playing, visit my Exercise page.Or you can always get them one of them roller ball's!

Try putting a small amuont of food in the middle of a toilet paper role, they can chew their way through the roll, dump the food out and roll it around until the food falls out. Take a peice of paper, put some food in the middle and ball it up. Tie bits of veggies to strings and hang in the middle of the cage about eye level, the veggies will move around a little while they try nibbling on them. I use to have guinia pigs a long time ago and they enjoyed all of this.

mine used to love anything that he could use as a tunnel. Depending on how big they are, you will just need to find some random containers in the house and cut the bottom out of them. Make sure you only do this with paper containers because plastic or metal might scratch them!
