Watching the Dog Whisperer is a great idea. Never get excited when you get ready for a walk. Say nothing to the dog. Put the leash on and go. You be the first out the door. If the dogs stops just keep going. Do not talk to the dog, just go. Sometimes it helps to walk with another dog. If the dog pulls, do not pull back, but pull sideways or go the other way like Brock said. Pulling back makes them want to pull more.

When they start to pull, instanty turn around and start walking the other direction. You usually have to do this a lot to let them know that you are in charge of the direction you are going. Once you turn give a tug to show them to follow your lead. It usually feels pretty silly walking about 10 feet and having to turn around and walking about 10 more feet and doing it again like you are pacing back and forth, but that is one thing that helped me. Just mix it up and have fun.

I had this problem with my lab/pit mix when I moved to an apartment because he always had run of the yard. Believe me, this dog would pull me all over the place. Well, if you've ever watched 'The Dog Whisperer', you'll have your answer. And, yes, your dog should not be allowed to walk ahead of you, but beside you. Every time he pulls to get ahead, a slight tug on his lease (it need not be hard) is the key. It will not work overnight, but it does work. Just be consistant. Good luck!
