Siamese cats for people with allergies?

The allergy tends to be to the dander put off by the animal (be it cat, dog, horse etc). All animals create dander - it's basically dead cells. Depending on how extreme the allergy is, perhaps due to the short hair of a siamese, it would be easier to bathe it and reduce the dander; although it could increase it at the same time, if the animal is sensitive to the soap used and dry skin results from it. Antihistamines are good though. A suggestion for people who are allergic is if they're adamant about getting the critter they're allergic to, then perhaps it would be a good idea to spend some time with it before they go in for the permanent investment. Cats are 9-20 year investments depending on age and care at least....time, money, and emotional investments.

I am allergic to cats - all cats, including the siamese. For me, it doesn't matter the type of cat, I'm allergic to them all. I think it likely depends on the person involved, as people have different allergies and levels of reactions.

Talk to your friends and neighbors, somebody is bound to have one (and no other pets). Get invited over for an afternoon of petting the cat. You'll find out rather quickly.

The Cornish Rex is a potential choice for a minority people who are allergic to cats.
