I own 2 french BULL dogs and they are the best little dogs ever. I would not own a pit as I don't feel it would fit into my lifestyle well.

I think the most important thing you need to remember when you are talking about bully breeds and pit bulls in general, dog aggression is NOT human aggression and your most dog aggressive pit bull can be the best family dog in the world.
In the fighting world, a man biter is not going to be tolerated, period. Why would two men risk their safety in the ring with a man biter? Because of this, your true bulldog is going to have a rock solid temperament with people.
Where the problem comes in is not with the treatment of these dogs but with the disregard for breed type within the backyard breeding community. People are now breeding these dogs for size, breeding these dogs for color and throwing correct breed type out the window. A true bulldog can overcome ill treatment, every single one of my dogs have some sad story of abuse, of neglect and every single one of them are the most loving, stable dogs in this world. They have overcome their past because of there rock solid genetics, true bulldog.
Yes, these dogs are usually not good with other animals but that is something that management can take care of. You never trust a pit bull not to fight with another dog, just like you don’t trust a terrier to not chase a squirrel across the street, or trust a lab not to jump in a lake, it is something they have been bred to do for centuries.
I personally am a fan of the breed and hope that this country does not make it impossible for me to continue to choose the breed I want to share my life with. A properly manage pit bull of correct temperament is a wonderful addition to society.

I love pit bulls, and my family has two of them. They are really wonderful dogs. Since living with us they have come a long way, since both were rescued from unfavorable situations, and they bring joy to our lives. That said, having pit bulls is not for everyone. They are very strong, intelligent, instinctual dogs- truly amazing creatures- that require a lot of exercise and interaction to be happy. They are not dogs that just anyone could have- heck, it takes all four of us here to give them all the proper attention between all of our jobs and lives! That said, all the love we put into them is returned to us tenfold. I couldn't imagine my life without them.

I think they are like any other dog. With proper training and care they can be wonderful. But if you abuse them and treat them wrong they can turn bad just like any other breed of dog. I've seen some extremely aggressive toy breeds.

I dont own a pit but I know someone who did & he was a sweet dog. I do own a rott & he is 14mo old & w/ proper training we have given him he is the sweetest so called vicious dog, but we work w/ him everyday, walk him 45 min everyday, let him play but no tug of war games, which are not good for rotts because they learn to challenge you, & he does like to challenge as any dog will we just let him know what is acceptable & what is not acceptable behavior & he knows what we expect, these dogs are very smart but need to be constantly engaged or they get bored easily. You have to be willing to put in the time & effort it takes to have these type of dogs, but the rewards are so worth it, this is my 2nd rott & we are getting another pup soon. Owners who buy pits to fight are the reason these dogs turn mean a dog doesent just become mean, they learn what they are taught.

I am not against them. If it wasn't for dog fighting everyone wouldn't even think about calling a pit bull mean. If labs were known for dog fighting do you think that they would still be the #1 dog registered in America? NO! Or if Chihuahuas were used for dog fighting everyone would think they were cute? NO! If you raise a dog to fight and be mean it will do it. If you raise your dog to be nice and be well behavied it will. They want to serve you. So if they are taught to fight they will think they are behaving how you want them to. I'm glad that you like them too!

I can't say I feel either way. I'd rather look at the dog.

I like and trust the bull terriers. But not so much the pitbulls. To many problems with biting. I think there alot more to it than just the way there raised. My brother had one when my kids were little they could do anything to her. But she almost took my sisters sons eye out and he knew the dog since it was a puppy. He came in the house the dog was at the top of the stairs and when started up the stairs the dog bit him on the face missing his eye by about 1/2 an inch. she bit all the kennel staff at the vet. But to most of the family she was a sweet heart.

Polly, a pitbull/lab is a resue dog with an abused past. She is not aggressive, just extremely energetic. Love is her middle name. It has taken some time..she is still skiddish sometimes. If someone was trying to train her to be mean, it didn't work !!
