I feel your pain. I recently thought the same. What I did was start selecting 'entertainment' on the news page. That eleminates many of the abuse stories and give me more fluff. It's not a solution but when you just can't deal with the bad stuff this helps.

I agree that it is depressing as well, but it may be the only way to get people's attention enough to take a stance against abuse.
If the Michael Vick story did not get the attention that it did (and that was very depressing), those poor pit bulls would still be suffering.

I agree it can be really rough, but you have to take heart with the small victories as well. Like how thousands of pet owners have been able to keep there pets due to pet "soup kitchens". And that proposition 2 passed in California. The only way to really get the cruelty to stop is education but maybe write your congreesman or senator and ask for stiffer punishments for animal abusers...

Unfortunately that is the way the media works. More attention has always been given to the negative over the posative. This you see every day on the news. You would see a murder case over a little girl who saves brother from drowning case. I think it is because there is more Hype over the bad, more attention is given by people; Naturally people want to see what happend and hear what is going to be done. Its human nature!

I agree that a majority of the news is depressing but i think it is just a reflection of our society. Bad news may sell but I think many welcome news of the good. I want to be made aware of issues so we can solve them. I always look for good heartwarming stories to try to balance out reading the depressing ones.
