If you can't spend every minute with your pup (and you didn't say what animal you have, so I'm assuming it's a puppy) to supervise her until she grows out of her mouthy stage, you're going to have to confine her to an area somehow and give her acceptable chew toys. Kongs are a great invention and a nice way to keep your pup's energy up throughout the day by giving them healthy snacks. If you find that your pup insists on chewing YOUR items, not her own, then it's probably because she associates your items with your smell, which is of great comfort to her since you're her pack leader. Punishment doesn't really work - it will only make her fearful and resort to sneaking and chewing behind your back. Diversion is the best thing to do - replace negative behaviors with positive ones by giving them something acceptable to do.

There are anti-chewing products you can buy, but please remember to NEVER spray Bitter Apple or any other anti-chewing spray IN a dog's mouth. That's cruelty and doesn't make the point you're trying to make in training. Bitter Apple is negative reinforcement of "I don't taste good, so don't chew me." You spray it on the items you don't want chewed (if you can't move them out of reach), but be sure to spot test first, it may stain. It won't work on all dogs, especially if a dog's chewing for manic reasons (too much energy and no outlets), but it generally works well.

Good luck!

first is he teething?- give him something cool to chew like a frozen cotton rag that that's been in the freezer. Watch for loose strings that may choke.

Not teething? Response interruption. When you see him chewing give him an unpleasant response. Spray him with water (not on the head) or shake a can w/ a couple pennies in it and say No!
I have a marshmallow gun I used. But Vlad wasn't fazed by it beause he likes marshmallows.

Is he chewing a specific item? paint it w/ bitter apple or tobasco. You can also put packing tape on it sticky side out.

Is this a sudden new behavior? take him to the vet and have his teeth and mouth checked. Something might hurt.
Good luck
