my cat has very bad breath. i've checked his teeth, and they aren't rotten or anything, and i don't think he's old, because his eyes are still bright and shiny. my boyfriend and i have had him for a while now, and he's always had bad breath...hence the name stinky-face. he only eats dry food, i've tried every canned food and treat i can find, and he just sniffs them and looks at me like, ya you think i'm going to eat that smelly crap. the smell is awful, but he loves to get up by your face and say hello. i have no idea what to do to get rid of it or what could be causing it. HELP my stinky so his mummy doesn't gag when he tries to give me kisses!

I had this happen and couldn't understand why. Finally took my cat to the vet. My mother used to sew alot. When the vet looked into the cats throat she had a needle stuck in her throat. I would suggest taking her to the vet and make sure nothing has gotten stuck in her throat. Maybe a bit of food or? It sounds like its a good possibility. If the breathe is that bad it sounds like infection. Possibly even a sinus infection. They get those as well. Better safe then sorry with our pets. Good luck.

You might also think about getting some blood work on your kitty. Some difference problems signs can be bad breath. Trip to the vet is in order.

He sounds like he might need a visit to the vet. Teeth problems can cause bad breath but other health issues, such as stomach problems, can also cause bad breath.

Peridontal disease in cats

Answered by Jill R. (DocJill) 7 months ago

Diana,

Even though you think her teeth are fine, some of the teeth in the back could still be in bad shape. Bad breath is a sign of periodontal disease, which could result in other problems like kidney and heart disease if left unchecked. The best thing to do is to bring your cat into your veterinarian for an oral exam. The fact that the smell is so horrible does make you think there may be a hard to visualize infection somewhere back there.
