My cat has dandruff

My 11 year-old, solid black cat has terrible dandruff. No matter how much I brush her, it seems that the dandruff is still there. She also pulls her fur our in spots. Other than that, she seems perfectly fine. She eats well, and participates in the daily cat chase with our other cats. Does anyone have any solutions for cat dandruff? Incidently, she has diabetes which is under control with two shots of insulin daily.

Feed her raw meat & bones. Read the book "Raw Meaty Bones" by Dr. Tom Lonsdale.

I've been having the same problem with my Misty almost her entire life. The vet just said to brush her, but that didn't seem to help much. This winter, since she seems to be worse in the winter, I put humidifiers up around the house as well as an air purifier and it seems to be helping.

That is so strange, my black cat has dandruff too and I was wondering where on earth it came from! It seems from looking at the answers from others that it has to do with skin being dry perhaps? I would contact your vet and see what they think and recomend. I plan on doing the same! :)

Sounds like allergies to me. I would check with my vet about a course of action...a holistic vet might be your best bet.

My friends cats (brother & sister) had dandruff like crazy. The both also had allergies. Brushing made the dandruff worse. And the dandruff got worse in the winter... dryer, flaky skin. She got some gel tablets from the vet, natural Omega fatty acids, and this helped. Also a lotion to rub into the fur: Lo-Shed.

Have you tried switching cat food? I don't know what you give your cat now, but have you tried Nutro Natural Choice for cats. It believe it would be good for their coat.

The black cat I always brushed at the humane society had the same problem. I used a Fuminator tool which helps get out some of that undercoat and in no time the coat will shine.
