I have had Abbie 7 or so years and since the day she came into our lives she has had a thing for plastic bags. She "pets" them, over and over as if she just likes the sound it makes. This is especially fun in the middle of the night. I know there are other cats who do this right? She also must sit/lay on anything paper. Newspaper, catalog, magazine, pizza box, whatever, if it is horizontal, she will lay on it. Heaven for Abbie will be a plastic bag to bat while she can lay on a pizza box (in hammock form if possible) in a sun ray.

Does anyone know why this is all so much fun for her? Is it the equivilant of me enjoying the sound of the pop of bubble wrap?

Cats really have an acute sense of hearing, and I think they like the sounds that the bags make. And of course, in the middle of the night is the best, just to keep the owners on their toes!

One of my cats used to chew plastic bags and I know that was not good for her. My other cat loves to sit in them, on them or slide across the room on the bag. There are always big plastic bags on the floor. I can also hear her playing in the middle of the night.

My cats are the same way.I don't know if it has anything to do with their love for small places(as in they like to climb in the bags and play) or the noise it makes. My cat goes crazy for toys that make sound, namely the little jingle-bells on the end of a rope.Cats are just crazy sometimes!

One of my cats has a similar fascination with plastic bags. Whenever we get groceries he sits right inside the empty bags. One time he got spooked and ran, with the bag on, and hid inside our bed! We found the bag about 2 months later :)

That's interesting. My cat's do that, too. In the middle of the night, especially. They must get bored and like the way it interacts with them. The plastic bags make noise and always respond to them!

I think it's the rustle of the bags. You need to be careful, though, one of my cats used to chew on the bags and I had to lock all my cupboards after he swallowed enough to gum up his intestines, making it necessary for an emergency operation. Queenie prefers the feel and sound of newspapers (especially when I'm trying to read them).

My DC (darling cat0 has the same fascination... but with boxes. I've bought him all kinds of expensive toys that he just ignores. If I want to make him the happiest kitty on the block, all I have to do is leave a few empty boxes in the middle of the living room floor.

My cat Sierra LOVES plastic bags. She loves the sound. She curls up in the bag. Be careful your cat doesn't get stuck in the bag. Sierra's head got caught in the handle of the bag and she flipped out and urinated on herself. Kinda funny but scary too!

I had a cat who loved to play with plastic bags. I think it was the crinkly sound. She always came running whenever she heard a plastic bag being moved. Then she could bat that thing for hours!
