I'm so sorry for you loss. As hard as it was, you did the right thing.
If Heaven is a wonderful, happy place, our loving pets have to be there. I firmly believe all of our furry friends will be there wagging their tails to greet us.
I hope you find peace soon...

I am so sorry for your loss, one of the most painful experience anyone goes through is losing their best friend. You did not murder him, by the way, you helped ease his suffering. YOU DID THE RIGHT THING. Please understand that. When a pet is euthanized, the medication that is given to them is a strong anesthetic, so your friend actually fell asleep and did not feel any pain at all. AND, heaven is what you want it to be. Maybe your minister's definition is one without pets, but I believe that both yours and mine is a heaven full of pets.
I know that it is really a hard time for you. My heart goes out to you. I do think you may benefit by speaking to someone about this and I would like to suggest that you contact UC Davis' pet loss support hotline: http://www.vetmed.ucdavis.edu

I am so very sorry for your loss. Like so many others here, I understand your loss. Your minister is wrong. I think he's also unfeeling and cruel. I am going to make two suggestions and I hope that at least one of them will help you. First, I'm going to recommend a brand new book, "God's Creatures: A Biblical View of Animals" by Susan Bulanda. She went carefully through the scriptures and shows what your Minister apparently doesn't know. I am also going to suggest that you find either a grief counseling group for pet loss (your local animal hospital or shelter may be able to help you locate one in your area), or an online group. There is probably one on yahoogroups.com where you can meet other people who are also grieving the loss of a beloved companion.
Sending warm, comforting hugs,
Darlene

Sorry for your loss. It's been almost a year to the day I put my dog Bullet down. I disagree with one thing though and I mean this kindly. You did not murder him. You gave him the kindest gift a loving owner could give. You were not selfish and and didn't think only of yourself. He was in pain and you let him go because you loved him so. And you will meet him again or it's not Heaven!

I'm very sorry for your loss. I disagree with your minister that dogs don't have a soul. Any creature that is alive and has the ability to feel is blessed with a soul. You will see Copper again, have faith. It will take time to get over you loss, losing your best companion is no different from losing a spouse, but in time it will get a little easier. Good luck.
