Local Animal Shelter, Bad conditions

Urgency:S.O.S.!

I have to say this because I've been there and witnessed this. The animal shelter in my home town has drop places for animals when you drop them there after hours. However, for dogs it's a big cage, for cats... hardly anything. It's like a tall ferret cage and it's very small. You couldn't fit more than 2 cats in there and they have it set up for several animals. What I want to know is what can I do about this? Should I report it or something? The people that work at the shelter are not the most friendly of people in the world which is sad. They don't seem to take their job seriously. This all worries me and I have no idea where to turn or what to do. Advice please. Thanks to all who take their time to answer.

EDIT: just so every one knows it's not the shelter above. My local shelter isn't listed on ZooToo but it's in my hometown of Selma, Alabama

I have the same problem in my home town. They just don't care. I tried to get custody of a beautiful female husky a couple of years ago. She kept showing up at my house; 7 times as a matter of fact, and 7 times they returned the dog to the abusive owner who later killed the dog. I have been repeatedly told nothing can be done and nothing has been done, still. I agree, go over their heads and call the State Attorney. I wish you the best of luck and if you get results, please let me know how to do the same!

Call the ASPCA immediately and report this situation. Don't contact your local authorities as it seems to be a good ole boy community. There should be no drop site of any kind, no matter what size or shape! This is an atrocity and needs to be handled very quickly! Call the State Attorney, the Governor of your State. Report this immediately. Let me know if you need any HELP of ANY KIND! I am armed and ready! Count me in! Go get'em!!!!!! I contribute big time to the ASPCA, NSAL, HSUS, and others so I mean that I will help you get this situation turned around if it means contacting the causes I contribute to!!!!!!

The idea of a drop site for animals regardless of the size of enclosure, is totally upsetting to me. I can't imagine any animal just being dropped off at night into some strange outdoor cage. How frightening that must be to be left there all alone not knowing where the heck you are. Shelter life is stressful enough without getting a start like that. I would definitely contact the local humane society and see what they think!

First I would call the humane Soc, or the SPCA the Main office, not local, maybe they can give you advise and ask it a protest is in order, If you get no where with them please let me know and where its at, I am a fairly big contributor to both and I will call if they say they can't help, I will ask them where my money is going if not to look into abuse and what is supposed to be a safe place. Good Luck

Yes I agree miaokitty. You should definitely contact the authorities and let them know about the situation and file a complaint. Explain why you think it's so inhumane and maybe even get your friends who agree with you to help.
