Something you might want to try is mixing some milk and eggs whipped together, soak your dog's coat with it for about ten minutes. Don't shampoo it off, just rinse the coat. Do this a couple of times, and supplement this with some warm olive oil massaged into his coat. You will see a difference, and not just in your wallet!

Dermaplex is a good shampoo for dry skin, you can also use any oatmeal shampoo. Try not to wash a dog w/ dry skin too often as this strips the natural oils that lubricate the skin & coat. Your best bet is not a lotion, which will quickly be licked off, but a supplement like Missing Link and a good food formulated for skin and coat. These are usually high in oils like flax & fish oil and often contain salmon, Nutro makes a good one. Get a soft brush and brush often, starting down the back of the neck, where the oils build up, to help distribute them throughout the rest of the coat. Hope this helps.

After you do all the other things suggested you can also use Keri oil after her bath. It's not real greasy unless you use too much, but it absorbs in a day or two. Just mix some in water and use as a final rinse and leave on or in a spray bottle inbetween baths. I use it for my dogs in the winter when everbody gets dry skin (like me) and in the summer because they swim almost everday and get rinsed off after.

You could try using a conditioning shampoo for her fur and there are also special doggie balms for dry paws and elbow pads. However, seeing your vet is a good idea. You need to make sure there isn't something medical wrong with her that is making her have dry skin. Your vet may also recommend a supplement or change to a premium food. Nutrition is important for healthy skin.
