A local groomer refuse to groom my husky dog. Because they say huskies are so aggressive. Is that true? They haven't even met my sweet husky dog who has never been aggressive around other people. I can trim and cut nails on him easily but not professionally.(ha)

I agree with "ourstaff". However bashing the groomers right to refuse to do a breed of dog is not right either, maybe she/he has had a bad experience with a husky or several, and is not comfortable grooming them. I think the groomer should have said, something more like "I am uncomfortable doing huskys" instead of saying huskys are aggresive. Example: My face was torn open by a shepard, that I worked with many, many times before, and had to be glue back together I can say for 100% i was terrified of Shepards in general even though it was that one, I couldn't shake the feeling of being nervous around them, and you can not be nervous around dogs, they know it. I would not/could not groom them for over a year. I did get some help with the shepard breed and do groom them again.

Like any dog, it all depends on the way they are raised and socialized. I have met some aggressive Huskies in my day but then again one of the most aggressive dogs I ever saw in our shelter was a Golden Retriever and they have such a wonderful reputation. Again, it all depends on how they are raised. It was unfair of your groomer to refuse to groom your dog without knowing it and just basing her decision on its breed. At least you found out early on what kind of person she is!

I agree with EmpressJacinda that you should feel lucky this groomer didn't take your dog, since this person is obviously not knowledgable. I am sure you know Huskies are high energy and need a lot of exercise, but you cannot generalize that any breed is always aggressive, whether it is a Husky, Pitbull, Rottie any other breed. I think while some breeds may have a tendency to be more aggressive, it is their environment and how they are cared for that makes the biggest difference in whether they are aggressive or not (or less commonly illness). For this groomer to refuse a customer based on breed is pure ignorance and you are better off with a different groomer who will treat your baby well.

Be happy that groomer refused to accept your dog. Since they have no problem generalizing an entire breed, they are obviously ignorant anyway. Patronize a more informed groomer.

That's ridiculous! First of all, huskies are known for their friendliness towards almost everyone, which is why they make poor watchdogs. ha ha :) My husky mix is the sweetest dog. He may look intimidating to some people, but he wouldn't hurt a fly.
Secondly and most importantly, it is inaccurate and ignorant to generalize an entire breed based on encounters with just a few dogs; especially if the generalization is based on their behavior during very stressful circumstances such as being groomed. Many dogs do not tolerate grooming well, but it does not mean they are aggressive.

Who in the world could make such a statement?!?!? This truly bothers me. Why would someone pinpoint a breed and say that can be aggressive? Any breed or mix of breeds can exhibit aggression if the circumstance warrants it. No, I have probably seen more nice Huskies than Huskies that exhibit aggressive behaviors.

Any breed can be aggressive. But no not all Huskies are aggressive I have know dozens that were super friendly. I live in MA where it can be very hard to get home owners insurance if you own a dog on their "black list" Huskies do tend to be on some lists. But so are many other working breed dogs. It is not fair to punish an entire breed. It is stupid and shows that people can be very uneducated and unwilling to learn.

Some can be very aggressive.. but it all depends on how tehir raised and their personality. I think it is bogus that they wont groom your sweet baby dog. I would report a complaint. Its just not right. Thats Breedizum!!!! Lol

My son's husky is the sweetest dog I have ever met. He's like a goofy toddler. I don't know why that breed would have a bad rep, if he's anything like the norm.

yes they can sometimes be aggressive, they are also very protective. However it all depends on the owner, if a person encourages their dog to be aggressive, then they will be. I would ask your groomer to agree to meet your dog, if not then find a new groomer.
