Is it okay for adult cats to drink milk?

Urgency:Need to know

I gave my cat, Maxwell, about 2 tablespoons on milk this morning. Then, right after he lapped it up, I had a thought about hearing that milk was not good for adult cats. I need to know if this is true; and if so, I won't give it to him any more. Thanks!

If your cat does ok, then it is fine. Milk will just give cats diarrhea. Just don't give your cat a LOT of milk, even if it doesn't bother him.

Cats are, as others have said, "lactose intolerant." Though, why should a cat be able to digest COW milk? It's a wonder some humans can.

That being said, if your cat has no digestive problems otherwise, a little lick of milk or ice cream doesn't hurt them. My 5 cats get little nibbles of people food, and they all love milk, but only get a drop or two off the tip of my finger!

I'm lactose intolerant so I drink Lactaid Milk and my cat gets some and he does fine too.

Why has my answer been deleted?? I thought it was very well thought-out and educational and put a lot of thought into it... I can't even remember what I said other than it probably isn't a good idea since most animals are lactose-intolerant. :(

Cats & dogs should not have dairy young or old, mom's milk is different, the healthiest dairy treat for for your dog or cat is a bit of low fat yogurt my 1 greyhound had a finicky stomach and about 16 yrs ago I was told to give yogurt, check on the cat thing I don't have a cat but I do no milk is bad for them just not sure yogurt is good for them, so my 3 girls get abut 1/2 cup low fat yogurt as their good night treat and with summer here I put a few fresh blueberries in, don't use whole or no-fat yogurt , and my dogs are big, smallest 70lbs, largest close to 100lbs, so always check with your Vet just make a call, no charge or else find another Vet
