most dog food labels suggest feeding more than what they would normally eat. not much more, but just enough to get you to go through the bag faster. its okay if they eat this amount, just watch out for weight gain. if your puppy is eating less than that amount, its probably b/c they're full before they finish it - which is a very good thing b/c that means they aren't gluttons like most dogs are.
if you feel they should be eating more or if they are losing weight as a result, you should contact your vet.

Pups need lots of food to grow strong. I would suggest a light wet food. But after the age of 5 months start to feed him dry food. a good wet food is Granny's Pot Pie. hope this helped!! :)

Your dog is small right? I think fully grown it won't be bigger then about 12 pounds? Go see your vet though - they will check him out make sure medical is 100%... and they can give some recommendations. I got my puppy last year at 8 weeks old too.... I fed him 3 times a day - tiny amounts..... always have water out for him (until you pick it up at night) - but if he doesn't eat the food after 20 minutes - pick it up. I gave my dog the Wellness Puppy food - but you can ask your Vet for a recommend. I would also find a good puppy class to go to... make sure the trainer is APDT or CPDT... It will be alot of fun and you will meet other puppy owners too. Good Luck with your new puppy!

For goodness sake ask the Vet, you don't even say what breed he is, he should be on puppy food & it helps to mix a bit of wet food in & put a little water in the food to ge it soft, your pu should be at a vet. for a check up and shots, flea meds, hearworm & whatever else he needs, you don't just get a pup & start feeding him & hope for the best, you feed him but he should be getting reading for a Vet appt.

I would try another type/brand of food or try adding a little water or canned food to it to make it tastier. What breed is he? Small breed dogs should be fed at least 3 times a day to avoid low sugar.

The amount to feed suggested on the back of the bags is general. With a good high quality meat based protein food you will be able to feed less because there are more nutrients in the food. A puppy should also be fed at least 3 times a day, if he's not eating all that you put out try giving him smaller amounts through the day. If he's snubbing the food your feeding now maybe he just don't like it, try checking into a differant one, just make sure if he's not eating that are no health issues going on.
