We had severe thunderstorms with high winds and pelting rains a few days ago here in Georgia. The next day we found out that 7 tornadoes had caused quite a bit of damage.

My dog Stoney barks because he hates thunder or to protect his "pack" I guess. My cat just lays on my bed while you can here my dog run up and down the backyard fence barking like crazy!

I've had several dogs that were afraid. A Basset Hound named Ginger had to be the worst, though! She would pace and pant and drool all over the place! Another little dog we had named Butch would walk on us when it stormed during the night.

All of the dogs I have ever owned have been frightened by thunderstorms. I don't know if it's the vibrations they feel from the thunder - but they would always go and hide. You just have to keep reassuring them.

2 of our dogs don't seem to mind, but our Ridgeback gets freaked out! She will whine and cry until she has a table or a bed to go under!

Abby is very frightened by thunderstorms. She will either stay by my side or go into the closet to hide from the storm.

We have two dogs that don't mind storms, but our patti (passed away now) hated storms, she'd climb through screens, break things, jump in the bathtub and completely go ballistic when she heard thunder. We have a cat that is terrified of thunder too. Don't know how to change that, other than staying calm ourselves, but even that doesn't work very well.

If it's really loud Linus hides, sometimes he just stays right under my feet. Missy sleeps through everything.

Our alpha dog has started reacting to stormy weather and firecrackers. He whines, hids under our legs...tries to be as close to us as possible. We try stop the behavior without makeing a big deal out of it. Just let him know that it's unacceptable behavior.
