How do I get my year and a half old dog to behave?

Normally I dont have to wonder to much about disipline, Ive had dogs all my life, but the last few weeks have been horrible. My boyfriend of a year will shortly be deployed. Our dog Mya has been with us since last June and has always been decently mannered. Since he has been gone though, she has found it necessary to be naughty. Any ideas on how to tame her while he's gone? Anything will help!

Take him to a training class right away. He simply needs to learn to obey and understand the rules. I love that you used the word "naughty" - - that's about it!

Distraction may help. Try to keep busy lots of play lots of walks then maybe your dog wont have the energy left over to be naughty.

Definitely seek the help of a trainer. They are so good at giving you a dog's point of view, rather than what we as humans think is going on.

Maybe, adding a companion, like a rescue to your family would help her in her missing your boyfriend. They could keep each other company. I have three little dogs, they get along great. They keep each other company when we are not home.

If i was you, I would try spending more time with her. She misses your husband and really doesn't know how to show it so she misbehaving. After a while if that doesn't work then try taking her to a training class. I wish you all the luck. My husband deploys next month and our cat is the same way about him. So i'm going to have the same problem.

Take the dog to a reward-based training class and enjoy the benefits!

Mya is probably acting out because of the change in the household. She senses your stress levels with your boyfriend gone, and she's reacting accordingly. I strongly agree with getting her into training classes, so she learns to also respect you as a leader. Is she crate trained? If she's destroying things in the house when not watched or alone, crating will be a great help.

Was your boyfriend the one who primarily exercised Mya? If so, you definitely will have to step up there. Bully breeds need plenty of controlled exercise and training to focus their natural exuberance.

Essentially: training, exercise, and crated when not supervised will help Mya be a happy girl!

Definitely training classes, plenty of chew toys accessible at all times and a lot of exercise!

Taking a dog training class where you re-establish yourself as the pack leader may help. There are other fun things like fly ball, agility, etc that can help you do that as well.
