My hat is off! (?) Zootoo might as well just hand them the first place prize for the point accumulation phase. What do they have, a computer bank where they have dozens of people come in and upload etc?
Specifics: without naming names, there is one shelter that accumulated 56,000 points yesterday, and has shot up the ranks from the mid twenties to ten or eleven. At that rate, they will be in first place in a matter of days. (Hey, as long as one can Edit, one can re-enter the conversation regarding a question one has asked!)
I might add, after several people have answered, that I don't mean to say anybody is cheating. It's just that 56,000 points in one day is so far out of the ballpark that it make one wonder about the integrity NOT of the contestants but of the contest itself.
I do admire the enthusiasm and organization that Central MO has evidently been able to muster to get all those points. Unlike any of the others, so far.
Addendum: who won last year?

CHMS serves something like 52 counties in central Missouri. The shelter on the other hand is tiny and overflowing with animals. It couldn't look any more depressing if it tried. The community has been contacted by paper, televison, and internet media to get involved. It is a small town shelter serving a large need. I hope this silly point system doesn't detract from that.

My shelter is STHS and we're #1 right now and one day we jumped that much too. It was from a load of referrals who joined and lightin a fire under our member's to get all their points in everyday.

First, thanks for posting this question otherwise I would not have known that a shelter was capable of getting 56,000 points in a day. Second, it is mind blowing that one shelter was able to get that many points in one day. Third, I wish our shelter could do that too.

I wish this could happen for the shelter I support-we have many people that signed up only then never did anything else to enter points for us.

Simple. They got their all their supporters to agree to post journals, photos, reviews and whatever else to get the points. They have a great team spirit.

Sewer - you'd be amazed at what just a small number of supporters can do! If there are 800 supporters of your shelter, and each commits to getting 100 points per day - which is easy with two journal posts, five pictures, and five article comments - that's 80,000 points in one day! It just takes the committment of dedicated people to post the number CMHS has posted. Once people find out how easy it is, the community may really want to get involved! Good luck!

Thank you for the question and for those who answered. There are many of us who do wonder how a few shelters can gain so many points overnight. Not accusing of cheating or anything else. But it is a valid question with some shelters gaining so much in a "nano-second." It is helpful to have valid answers. And only fair to all in this Makeover Contest. We all work hard for the points.
Congratulations to you and your community!
And shelter/rescue who wins is deserving. For it is for the animals!

There are a lot of members and that number is growing everyday thanks to the support of media and 2 young girls. The Central Missouri Humane Society doesn't only serve Columbia, as the name states, they serve central Missouri; creating a large community. Why not just be impressed with the outpouring of community support instead of accusations of cheating?
