What type of bedding are you using? With our guinea pigs and hamsters we use distilled white vinager and hot water and scrub the cages once a week. You may want to check and make sure that your water bottle isn't leaking. That can cause a bad oder also. Is the droppings from your hamster normal or runny. If they are runny it can cause a smell and you would need to get your hamster to the vet. Are you feeding it fresh veggies or fruits? If you do you need to remove any uneaten pieces at night. I hope this helps you.

I used a mix of water and juice from a lemon or orange to clean the cage bottom and sides etc. 1/2 cup water and 1 whole lemon/orange juice- i put it in a spray bottle (cheap one at big lots/$ store) it also works great on our dog's kennel and parrot's cage!

Maybe try vinegar? It is safe and can neutralize odors. I used it to get out the bait smell from my fridge! :)

Well it can depend on what kind of odor it is. Is it their waste?? Do they use a specific place in the cage? If it is both then you just need to clean out that corner every other day and it shouldn't smell. From what I know, a hamster is very clean and if his/her cage is kept clean then there should be no odors.
