You can search all local shelters that are registered with petfinder in your area to find dogs close to you. You can even contact shelters via petfinder to get more information about a dog you may be interested in and save yourself a drive to the shelter!

Like other people say go to a shelter because there might be an dog that might be what your looking for and I read in the horse trader is pet of the week theres usaul a cat and a dog. The sad thing is one been there for 4 years. Inmagine being in there for 4 years and have nobody play with you and there probaly puppies too. Well hope you find a great pet. Good Luck.

well my first peice of advice is GO TO A SHELTER please thats the best place! then it's all in what kind of dog you like you'll then find the perfect one!

I agree with what many people have already said. The first step is to figure out what kind of dog fits your lifestyle. Once you have done that, check out local shelters. You can also search on the internet for breed specific rescue groups. Please rescue a dog. There are so many great dogs looking for a good home.
