Have you dealt with interstitial cystitis in your cat?

One of my male cats has had interstitial cystitis for several months. I have tried a million different things to help this issue, and have recently even started giving him subcutaneous fluids to help flush his bladder a couple times a week.
He does have crystals in his urine, but cannot eat the special diet due to a chicken allergy.
The veterinarian has been of no help, and I am probably going to get a second opinion.
I just thought I would see if anyone else has found successful solutions.

Interstitial cystitis often occurs without an accompanying infection, and it's not clear why there is inflammation. It is interesting to note that most cats with IC were on a dry food diet.

When the animal is in distress with IC, often vets diagnose amytriptaline.

This article, while long, is very informative:

Have they done a urine culture to figure out if there is a bacterial cause to the cystitis? Do you have any of the urinalysis information or bloodwork if they have done it?
