We've had 4 small (3.0) quakes over the last ten days and both my dogs were crazed before it happened. ...so much so that I took one of them to the vet because she was shaking so bad. After leaving the general area we live in she calmed down. her exam and blood work didn't indicate anything and when I spoke to the vet today she said two other dogs came in for examinations with the same behavior.

Yes its a known fact that dogs react to earth quakes, there are several studies in CA that predict them, basically the animals run off and they know its coming

Animals know a lot about nature. They seem to sense or feel things before we do. We can tell what the weather is going to do by watching the cattle and horses.

My husband and I used to live in Bremerton, WA. Everytime the earth shook out there, our cat (we didn't own a dog at the time) would become extremely agitated and run laps around the house. Since this was a cat who normally did the better part of nothing all day long---this was a big signal something was going to happen, Sure enough, EVERY time, you could either feel tremors within about an hour or it was reported on the news that tremors had been detected.

We all felt that 3.2 earthquake here almost 2 weeks ago now quite strongly - the humans that is. We were very amazed that our 2 dogs did not move a muscle, slept right through it. Where was their early warning system? Asleep this time!

We use to live just north of Anchorage, Alaska. At the time we had an older cocker spaniel. She would leap off the bed or sofa or whatever about 5 minutes before an earth quake would hit and whine and bark. After the quake finished shaking things she would lie down and go back to sleep. The first time is scared me but after that I would just brace myself for the coming shake.

25 years ago a tornado was approaching the town where my parents lived - the sun was shining and there was no indication. Their dog began running up and down the stairs like crazy. The tornado touched down just a few blocks away and my dad didn't even know it, but the dog sensed something was happening.

I have never gone through a quake with my dogs but I would imagine that they would feel it differently than we do. One of my clients dogs can "predict" a storm. He will literally sit in the yard and stare up LONG before it starts raining.

It is my belief that dogs are much more sensitive to the environment than we are. I know when we're going to have a thunder storm before it happens because of my dog's behavior.

Oddly, no. We haven't felt anything either and I hear we had three.
