We've had 4 small (3.0) quakes over the last ten days and both my dogs were crazed before it happened. ...so much so that I took one of them to the vet because she was shaking so bad. After leaving the general area we live in she calmed down. her exam and blood work didn't indicate anything and when I spoke to the vet today she said two other dogs came in for examinations with the same behavior.

All animals can pick up on things like pending natural phenomenons - aka earthquakes, hurricanes, sometimes even tornados. I have experienced my dog and my horse acting strange before a earthquake happened (I lived on the San Andreas fault for 20 years!). They know it is coming... some whine, some pace, some just shake but mine always just would stick to us and now leave our side.. I could tell just by that, that one was about to happen! Think about he elephants and other animals in Sri Lanka before the tsunami hit - they all were moving to higher ground and very few animals were found dead... We could learn a lot if we would just pay attnetion to what they are "telling" us.

Dogs can be super sensitive to things like that! Even the ones at my shelter!

We don't get earthquakes in pittsburgh, but my lab can tell when a storm is approaching long before I realize it. She hates thunder and lightening. Before you see anything outside or feel a change, she starts shaking and stays extra close to me.
