I don't live in your area but I had a rabbit for many yrs I think he was over 15 and bigger than the schanuzer down the street and when the dog got out one wimple gave that dog such a kick with his hind legs that the dog ran home screaming and I've also had a guinea pig (Fagan), it is VERY important you find an exotic expert some Vets will say sure bring them in, be very sure that the are specialists in htat field, if you have a teaching Vet Hosp. they will have someone and if you find one further away call and ask for a reference, I feel really lucky I have Univ of Penn abut 20 min. from me, be careful & good luck

clslay is right, many vets do not take care of exotic pets. Ben had a rabbit, Rudy, for 13 years and he finally found a vet in our area that would see Rudy as a patient. They are not like cats or dogs so you have to find a vet with small animal specialty or go to the Vet School of Medicine in your area and that may not be close. Good Luck.

WE had a pet rabbit. Its a specialized area. Its considered an exotic animal. We had to take our bunny to the Veterinary Medical Teaching University near by. We found out all bunnies if not bred have to be spayed or will get cancer in the ovaries.A lot of vets will not treat these animals we found out and every time were referred to the University. Don't know if this helps or not. Just what we ran into. Our bunny was an indoor pet. They litter train just like a cat. Are great housepets. One just has to be very careful of their chewing habits though. Good luck in your search.
