Has anyone ever used garlic to combat fleas and ticks? I started using it because I do not like using the chemicals on my dog. She really likes the taste and it's all natural. I was just wondering if it will actually work.

My mother gives it to her dogs and swears by it. HOWEVER, I have also heard that garlic may be toxic to a dog so please talk to your vet first.

I've never heard of using garlic for that purpose.

Garlic is potentially toxic for your dog if given too much. You should ask your vet if it is safe to use it on your dog, your vet would also know if it works.

Would also like to reiterate -- garlic CAN safely be given to a dog in the **correct amounts**.

Very true -- too much garlic can be toxic for your dog! I strongly suggest talking with a vet and doing research on how much is too much and going from there.

I know its supposed to be a natural remedy, but garlic in the wrong amt. can kill your dog, each dogs system is different, I've heard so many people say I always give my dog grapes nothing happens and then their crying their eyes out that their dog might die, there have been many Cases at the Univ of Penn Animal Hosp, for that about 99% of the dogs don't make it, or go into temp. health. so I don't understand why people don't do research before giving their pets something that could hurt them we have them we are responsible for them

I posted a dog biscuit recipe that is very easy to make at home under journals. Its under food and treats. Check it out as it has garlic and they work. They are called Flea Terminator's. Thought you may like to see it. The dogs love them. They are healthy for the dogs.Make great gifts at holidays for your friends pets too! Giving garlic to a dog in raw form I have heard is not good however in baked or in powder my vet states is fine. It also depends on the breed. Some breeds can not tolerate it. I would ask your vet priot to giving your dog anything just to be safe.

Garlic is on the list of things to never give your dog along with onions, grapes rasins and chocolate. Advantage is the safest product I know of and it really works. It's safe enough for pregant and nursing dogs and cats as well as 8 week old animals. I even used it on my rabbit. Some states use the same ingredients on their fruit trees for pest control.
