This is our fourth cat that likes to play with toilet paper. Does anyone else have this problem?

My cat, Wynona loves to rip up a roll of paper towels. And if she can find a box of Puffs tissues left out where she can get to them, she pulls out several tissues and proceeds to make a nest.

i have seven cats right now, and i would say they have all done this, a few do it all the time. i have a 12 wk old kitten and a 7 month old one and they will get the whole roll of paper towels and run around the living room with them. they shred some of it too. i have to hide the tp and the paper towels. oh and qtips bc my 2 yr old likes to rip the cotton off and scream at the cardboard part. cats are insane.

If the opportunity is presented, some of my cats will shred toilet paper and paper towels. I had a dog that would shred toilet paper too. I think he copied the cats. Years ago, I quit putting toilet paper and paper towels where any of my animals could get to it. The toilet paper is in a container and paper towels are on the top shelf in a cabinet.

We own four cats and it just took just one to teach them all, so the good news is that they learn from each other, the bad news is they only teach each other the naughty things.
Some suggestions on how to deal with this behavior include keeping the bathroom door shut (a no brainer & it's what we do). You can also turn the toilet paper around to that it unrolls toward the wall so that when they paw on the roll it doesn't unroll. This said, if they are well established in their life of crime they will simply shread the roll if their frustrated attempts to unroll it fail. You can try one of those commercial "cat-off" products in the general area of the paper, probably not a good idea to apply it to the paper though. You can also cover the roll with tin foil and/or make a cover for it (out of foil)that has sticking packing tape on the outside of it. Loop a large stip of tape into a circle and apply it to your cover and hope that hate the feeling of tape sticking to their paws.

My cats tear up tp and play/hide in brown paper bags and my dogs love to tear up paper towel rolls, or the empty gift rap roll, fun fun
