Many of my dog friends plan their vacations to places they can bring their dogs with them. I was curious if this is becoming more common.

Whenever I go camping, my dog comes too. She has a good sense of people, and she won't let anyone on the site if she doesn't feel right about it. Now that I have kids, it is very important to me to take her camping. I'm a single mom of 2, and she helps me keep an eye on them. Many times I have also only booked hotels where I could keep my dog with me. My parents won't stay at a hotel unless the dogs are allowed either. A lot of people think this is silly, but most of you will understand, your dog is like your other child. I've had her for 8 years, I just don't feel right about taking her to a boarding place, unless absolutely necessary.

I am not sure if it is more common but I think it depends highly on your individual animal. My family usually boards our dog even though she has slight separation problems when we leave her there for that long. I dont think she would do well with the long drive and being cooped up since she is a lab and we live on 12 acres for her to run free!

I enjoy brining my dog on vacation. If camping at a campground, I always make sure dogs are allowed.

Nope. We took our cat to New York where my daughter wanted Simon to live with her. He went under the sink at the motel and found a small hole to get into the wall. It was a nightmare. Maybe a calm dog would be OK to take somewhere but they act funny when out of their element.
