Many of my dog friends plan their vacations to places they can bring their dogs with them. I was curious if this is becoming more common.

I travel quite a bit for my daughters softball (on weekends) but I have to admit, I think about taking our dog and I was happy with my decision to take her for Christmas from Florida to Pennsylvania this past year. I would do it again.

It sounds like fun, but no. When we go on longer vacations it's usually to visit my son, who's often in Japan, so that would not be a great trip for the dogs!

Day trips yes but long vacations - no way! They are much better off having their own vacation at Morris Animal Inn while I travel. Yes I miss them while I'm gone, but they don't want to be stuck in a hotel room while I go out for dinner. It is very difficult to keep them relaxed and in a routine while traveling.

We have only taken our dogs on short trips. Only places where the dogs didn't have to be confined to a car for a long amount of time. We have very big dogs though, a Great Dane and and Irish Setter. I guess you have to consider several things when deciding to travel with pets. 1. Are you heading somewhere pet friendly, and is there a vet in the area in the event of an unexpected illness or injury? 2. Are you traveling a distance that is manageable for your pet? Pets get car sick and stressed out much easier and faster than humans do. 3. While on vacation are you going to be able to spend time with your animal during the day or take them with you to your activities or is your time going to be spent doing activities without your animal? Traveling with a pet is kind of like traveling with a small child, except that there are a few more items to consider. Sometimes it is more enjoyable to be able to leave your pet at your own house with a trusted neighbor/friend/relative or with your veterinarian as we do. Our dogs love staying with our vet, and we are able to enjoy our vacation. I love my dogs, but I feel relieved knowing they are with someone they like and trust.

We ALWAYS take our dogs camping. Their favorite is our annual family campout...with approximately 40 people and at least 10 other dogs. We tried a new campsite this year and it was perfect! Right on a big lake and not near any other campers so the dogs just ran and swam (and tried to steal hot dogs) for two solid days. They slept all the way home!

I like to go on vacations where my dogs can go. We all enjoy the outdoors activities with our dogs. However, I do also do mini vacations away from them. I think it does everyone a little good to get away from each for a little time.

we try to! have have taken them to the beach several times (about 3 hours away). There is a "doggie" beach where we go, they love to swim and play with the other dogs.

I've taken Ruby to the Lake for a weekend trip but that's about it. I'd love to plan a beach vacation and take both dogs!

I do if he is accepted by the hotel/motel we are going to. Other wise he his borded with a local kennel. They have persons living on site and a exercise yard divided by size for outside exercis. The do a great job for "Ralph"
