Does your dog get inverted sneezes?

Sammy would occaisionally have an inverted sneeze when he would get too excited. I heard these are common amongst short-nosed dogs or little dogs like pomeranians but now his are happening often over the last week and lasting longer. It is scary since he can't breathe and we have to try and calm him down for it to stop but then he starts panicking when it goes on too long. Has anyone else had problems with this reaching such a scary level?

My dad's dog does this. At first it scared us, but she started doing it everytime she gets excited. Sometimes they last a minute or two, but we rub her throat and talk to her in a calm voice. Then if that doesn't work, we ignore her so she can have a chance to calm herself down. She eventually stops and then we try not to get her excited.

My chihuahua reverse sneezes when when she gets excited. I just massage her throat and gently blow in her face and she usually stops.

I have a yorkie and this happens to him. It seems to happen more at the change of the seasons. Only once did it really scare me and him. Just keep him still and calm and it should pass. My vet says these are normal and some dogs experience stronger ones than others.

Both of mine do it sometimes... and several smaller dogs through the shelter did it too. I remember the first time Tahki did it I thought he was dying. Rubbing their throat seems to help some. I would try to avoid getting him so worked up, and if he starts to get too excited, ignore him for a little while so he can calm down. If he starts to have trouble, I would also try ignoring him then, to give him a chance to recover. Fussing over him might actually make it worse. They can tell if you are freaking out, which will get them more worked up!
Good luck!
