It sounds more like a Fungus so I would suggest Neutrogena T-gel and follow the instructions carefully. Tea tree oil is good for the itch and is anti-fungal but best bet is to use the variety with TeaTree oil AND Coal Tar.

Definitely want to use something with Oatmeal. You should test anything you put to your pet's skin in a small area to see if there is an allergic reaction. I put Vitamin E oil on my Cats and Dog's hot spots when they become dry and scaly.

Two Words: Plum Silky
You can find it at any independent pet store. It is gentle, toxin free, and smells soooooooo good. don't let the blueish purple color deture you, it does not stain.

Dinovite makes an INCREDIBLE shampoo that I am using on my Golden Retriever-it is mild-suds well-and rinses out so nice. I have seen a HUGE difference in my Golden's coat. I love this product. I do agree with getting some oil in the diet too.
