Funny you should have a pic of a black lab with your question- we had a lab who just loved poop- especially cat poop and "poopsicles" that he would find outdoors. Needless to say, this totally grossed us out, especially when he would bring one in the house to eat later! Our vet suggested all the commercially made products and a homemade mix with Tabasco sauce in it. None worked. finally my husband made a concoction of all the hot noxious tasting things he could think of. You would have thought it was the tastiest ice cream topping ever- the dog loved it! Oh well, we gave up on that and just went back to telling him to drop it when he picked up poop. Eventually, and no thanks to anything we did,he grew out of it

At this point it's probably a combination of habit and attraction. Make the feces uninteresting by feeding a high quality food (no meat by-products) and some pineapple. Then you have to also teach the leave it command. make sure you have yummy treats to offer in place of the poop!

I had a puppy that did this and I tried the store bought pills too (they didn't work)... but he did grow out of it. I also believe - Keep the yard clean first and foremost. Like the old adage, an ounce or prevention is worth a pound of cure. Or, take the dog on walks where the poo is immediately cleaned up. Someone tild me that Adobo contains the same active ingredient as the pills but costs much less and that the active ingredient is actually MSG. I'd also teach a "leave it" command, but this requires you be outside with the dog to tell him to "leave it" until he gets the idea. If it is an adult dog and the dog just started doing this I'd also tell my vet. Could be a sign of some other problem or deficiency... have you switched foods recently? If it's a puppy under one year it is likely puppy silliness, but it's still gross and you want to curb it before it becomes a habit. Pups in kennels can form a habit of feces eating if the kennel is not kept clean and they are bored.

This is pretty normal I think, just tell him to stop

I agree w/ the quality in food, try finding one high in fiber, & maybe feeding more, might still be hungry. could have vitamin or mineral deficiency, try the leave it command to deter the dog from it,clean it up right after dog is done going, try putting lemon juice on the stool also. try adding canned pumpkin to dog food taste good going in not so good going out. If still having problems have vet check for parisites or worms.

Put a soft muzzle on the dog each time he goes out or use Sea Meal which is made by Solid Gold. It can take up to four months for the Sea Meal to work, but it does.

Keep the yard clean. If there is no poop available, your dog can't eat it.

Some people say that putting a very hot sauce on the feces every time the dog defecates will deter him you may want to think about changing your dog food as well. Some dogs eat their feces because their food is not very digestible and their is a lot of "leftover" food in the feces. If your dog is defecating more then once or twice per day he probably needs a higher quality food.
