Dry food isn't necessary for the health of her teeth. If she wants nothing but canned, let her have it. Canned food (good quality brands) is much healthier for cats than dry food in a lot of ways. Especially when they are older, it's important to get that extra moisture in them. When picking a canned food, you should avoid
-a lot of grains (especially corn and wheat)
-meat by-products
-artificial flavors, colors or preservatives

I had Bubba until he was 18 years old. Around the age of 13 he started having trouble with his teeth and gums. My vet recommended canned food, high in protein, low in ash diet, and we did a very MILD cleaning of his teeth as his gums were inflamed and we didn't want any infection to ravage his system. Bubba lived another five wonderful years and died in my arms from age, and nothing else!!! Check with your vet as to what you should do.

Definitely get her teeth checked, but she might also be having trouble digesting the dry food.
Canned food is all fat & protein, which is what cats need. Their bodies actually make any needed glucose from their protein. In fact, cats don't have the enzymes to digest the grain ingredients in pet foods.
I feed my boys (oldest 12) canned & some low carb dry. I use Innova EVO. She just might be expressing the fact that she feels better when she eats the canned. And there's nothing wrong with that.

If she normally eats kibble and only recently seems to "refuse" to eat it, I would definitely take her into the vet to have her teeth checked out as you've been told correctly -- she could have dental problems and she isn't eating kibble and is favoring wet food because its painful to eat. Please, please get her to the vet.
