I have a British shorthair cat who gets terrible flea dermititis so I use frontline every month, it works great. I do not need to use anything else. I also use it on dogs who have flea dermatitis and I have found it very reliable with both dogs and cats.

my lab is allergic to fleas so i have him on benedryl, my babies got fleas from a stray cat, which is now a family member, he started chewing and losing fur. the vet put him on steroids and antiobiotic for an infection from the chewing. now i have to keep him on the benedryl just in case.

I have had a couple of dogs with this problem. I found that vet recommended monthly drops and cedar bedding can be helpful. One of my dogs went on steroids for flea irritation. She was maybe 15 pounds and could empty the house due to her gas issues. The good new is once we had the fleas under control she no longer needed the steroids.

Sometimes fish oil in the dogs food or in capsule form can help with dry skin. There are also special shampoos that might help but I would talk to a vet before trying anythinG

Good luck.

I do not have a dog that has a flea allergy, but my mother has a cat that has it severely. I'm her local "vet", so I ensure that she does her flea prevention (advantage or frontline) every month and sometimes more often in the summer. A soothing shampoo like aloe and oatmeal that doesn't remove the flea prevention is also very benefical. Anithistamines to stop itching and irritation of the skin are also something to mention to your veterinarian.
