Like Doc Jill says. Here's a couple of hints if you want to do it your self. I groomed cats for years. First thing, cut the nails. Both back and front. You'll be glad you did. With cats you can use human nail clippers. You only have to clip of the sharp points so don't worry about hurting him. You should get as much loose hair off him before you bath him, otherwise it might matt up. Next use a leash or rope to hold the cat and keep him from running away. Put the leash around the neck and under one leg so it's not all on the neck. That way it holds him without choking him. Don't fill the sink or tub with water, cats really hate that. Use a spray or a container filled with water and pour over him. Wet him, soap him up and massage in with your finger tips and rinse. If you have a plactic cat carrier you can towel him as dry as you can and put him in that with a hair dryer blowing in the door. Watch carefully so you son't overheat him.Don't worry he'll still love you.

If he's not grooming himself, it may be a health issue, especially if he used to groom himself. So, if that's true it would be a good idea to have him checked over by his vet to make sure there isn't a health issue at hand.

If he's just a slob, bathing will help, its not that hard to bathe a cat, just takes patience. If you can't do it, there are plenty of groomers that could do it for you.

Alternatively to bathing, there are plenty of grooming products on the market like cat wipes and dry or no rinse shampoo that may help solve your problem. There are also lots of products that help remove dander too.

In addition, use allergy traping filters in your heating/air systems, vacuum and dust frequently, and open window to allow a breeze.
