What preventatives do you use and why? What are the advantages of one over the other? It seems there are a number to choose from these days. I'm currently using Frontline, but have used other products in the past.

My vet has Misti on K9 Advantix. I like it because it also covers mosquitoes.

i use to have a comparison sheet for about 5 different brands. did they work for only adult fleas or all stages? did they include tick and mite preventatives? frontline was the best. what i also love about frontline is that, depending on where you live, it can be effective for up to 3 months.

We use Frontline Plus. It is supposed to be better than plain Frontline because it also kills the eggs so no new fleas can come on them. It has worked pretty well for us so far.

Frontline is good, but insects will become hardy against insectisides so I will switch to Revolution and that covers, fleas, earmites as well as heartworms. I think switching around helps. If it is mosquito season then I will do a spray on if I see the bugs flying around the dogs head, Usually every two weeks I use it as directed.

What to use will some times be determined by breed. Collies, for instance, should not get one of the ivermectin based products because for some unknown reason it can prove fatal. I myself use Advantage Multi, that while expensive, covers fleas, heartworms and common worms of the digestive tract......................dennis

I use Revolution. It is for heartworm, fleas and ticks. Revolution was recommended by our vet at the time for our Shar-pei because he had skin problems. We now use Revolution for Weaver.
