11-wk-old shih tzu really bothered by area he rec'd shots (upper thigh) anything to sooth area?

If you trust your Vet stay with him, but I would have to another Vet for a second opinion ASAP, my dog never got a shot that my Vet said paint would last about 2 weeks, a little lethargic for one day and they were NEVER in pain, or discomfort, some dogs have a reaction to shots and sometimes a muscle can be hit in error, your Vet should have had you back in that office as soon as you call and it should have been a free follow up, and if he's biting at it, it will cause more problems, did you Vet say thats OK let him bite at it?? If so call an animal hosp and see if they can refer someone, or ask someone you know if they know of a Vet, it's best to know who your going to or see If you can bring him to the Hosp, Hope all goes well for you

In response to answers below -- why take him to another vet? Vax reactions are not that uncommon, and even the world's most experienced vet can give a vaccine that causes a reaction in an animal. The animal's body may just be allergic, it has nothing to do with her current vet's credibility.

You did the right thing by taking him back to the vet; my suggestion is to make a note of which vax he had a reaction to, that way next time you go in, even if you go to a different vet, you can let them know. The meds should help, you could also try to massage the area. Unfortunately now its just a waiting game, since you have to wait to see if meds will help... if he doesn't show improvement over the next few days, go back to the vet again.

Its defintitely back to a vet. Ask about whether they can prescribe an a cream with cortizone and anti-inflamatory properties to help it along. I am not sure whetehr you can apply camomile lotion to dogs -- ask before you use ... It helps people effectively and being a natural product could be safe for dogs. Check it out.

I agree. Take him to another vet. I have a few dogs that have reactions to shots. It lasts a couple of days the most. I've have never had a dog sore for two weeks.

He must be in pain and distress. I would take him to another vet for a med reaction check! Does soreness usually take 2 weeks to go away when you get a shot?? Take him to a different vet right away!
