Q: Yowling Arnold

Oh my gosh...I have my boyfriend's cat until he can get an apartment that allows cats and Arnold is unbelievably annoying... He will wonder around just continuously meowing for like 10 minutes straight. The other person who was taking care of Arnold just could not stand it anymore so I took him. I figured it was because this other person never paid attention to him and Arnold wanted other cat friends. Well, now I pay lots of attention to him and he has 2 new cat friends to play with yet he still meows and meows and meows...

I think it is because he needs to get neutered maybe?

What do you think?

1.) Yes. I plan on getting him neutered. My other cats are neutered and Arnold does not and will not go outside unsupervised, so there will NOT be more unwanted kittens in the world.

Does anyone have any other suggestions as to why he could be meowing all the time or how I can get him to stop in the mean time until he gets neutered?

2.) He is just a regular old barn cat. When he meows I tell him to be quiet and ignore him.

3.) For interaction, other than trying to hump my other cats...lol...he pretty much doesn't do much with them.

is it meowing or more yowling? with feral cats, spaying and neutering is important not just for population control but to keep them from being such a noisy nuisance. once neutered, they don't yowl so much, which makes them much easier to live with. the same may be true for your cat, though some cats are just more vocal than others. one of my little guys, Spot, will follow me around meowing if he feels i'm not paying him enough attention. his brothers don't do this. Spot is very needy...that's just his personality.

Does he get what he wants, food or attention, when he meows? If so, he’s learned that meowing gets him what he wants. If you don’t like the meowing, it’s best to ignore it and reward him with food and attention when he is quiet. Does he meow when your boyfriend is around. If he doesn’t then he’s probably just missing him. What kind of cat is he? Some cats, like Siamese cats, tend to be more vocal.

He prob misses your boyfriend if he was used to seeing him more, plus a new environment has him a bit afraid so he's looking for security.
