Q: Why would a cat use your bed as a litter box??

On three separate occasions my cat has used my bed as his litter box (doing both duties mind you), of course he does it when I'm not home, because if I was I would NOT allow it...I'm getting tired of washing my blankets and spraying my mattress, and it's coming down to either giving him away or locking him in a carrier for the time that I'm not home (which is hours on end)...any suggestions?

The cleaning suggestions are good ideas. You could also try spreading a large towel on the bed and putting a bowl of dry food on it (after the cleaning). Most cats won't go where they eat and if they begin to associate your bed with food they may stop thinking of it as a litter box

Hi. Have you moved the litterbox, or changed thr type of litter? Cats can be very picky. Also how old is the cat, does it have any other symptoms.

One of my cats was doing this for a long time when I first got her. I finally figured out that when I started cleaning out her litter box more regularly and scrubbing it down often, it reduced the problem. I then invested in an automatic litterbox and have not had one problem since. Hope this helps.
