Q: Why won't my dog eat?
Just when I thought dogs eat anything, my “new” (to me — he’s four years old) dog refuses to eat chicken. Why?
Chosen Answer
If your dog won't eat new foods, he may have a classic case of canine food aversion.
You’re right. Most dogs — unlike some children we know — will try anything once. But dogs also have a remarkable memory for smell of food that made them sick — even years ago. Adult humans might give some stinky sickening thing a second chance. Dogs know better. Before he got to you, that dog might have gotten into some bad chicken.
Food aversion has its advantages.
