Q: Why is my female cat shedding in her lower-belly area?

When we first got her, she'd just had kittens and her entire under belly was nearly bald for obvious reasons. She is a strictly indoor cat and has been spayed and the only other cat in the house is a female as well...so she's not preggers!! I'd been finding numerous clumps of black fur around the house in excess and happened to notice when I rub her belly now, the lower part is nearly bald. Should I be worried? Could she be stressed? We've only had our other cat for a couple months and they still don't get along so I guess that could be a cause of stress for her. What do you think?

yep, bring her to your vet. Some cats will pull their hair out on their belly when they are upset or stressed- just like the way people chew on their nails. It could also be a medical condition, so best to have her checked out.

How long ago did she have kittens and was spayed? It could be hormones causing the problem. Also check for fleas. She may have a flea allergy. Ringworm is another possibility, but all these need to diagnosed by your vet.
