First she started shedding profusely, then a section at a time her smooth pink pug skin is turning black. Her hair appears darker in spots, but it could just be the dark underskin....PS Have vet visit on 5/25 and will update. Thanks for all responses.

Here's a link to "Black Skin Disease". I hope it works... You should have your dog examined by a vet in order to rule out other causes/conditions!!!!!

I was going to suggest the same thing as Mary. My chow, Teddy, developed splotches of black skin & started losing hair in those areas. He was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Once we got him on meds the discoloration went away & his hair started growing back. This is just one of the things that can cause discoloration on the skin, but the vet should be able to quickly determine the cause with some bloodwork.

Another thing to check into is Hypothyroidism, that is one of the symptoms our dog had before he was diagnosed with it, there were other signs but just question the vet about it so they might check for it.
